Copy YouTube Transcript · Last updated: 23 June 2026

Copy YouTube Transcript ("the extension") copies the transcript of the YouTube video, Short, or live stream you are watching to your clipboard or to a .txt file. The short version: everything happens locally in your browser and nothing is sent to us.

Data we collect

None. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. The extension has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising.

Data the extension stores on your device

All of this is saved only on your device via the browser's chrome.storage API. It never leaves your computer and is never sent to us or anyone else.

How the transcript is obtained

When you ask for a transcript, the extension reads the current page and requests caption data directly from YouTube's own endpoints using your browser's existing session — the same way the YouTube page itself does. That text is placed on your clipboard (or saved to a file) and, optionally, kept in your local history. It is never transmitted to the developer or any third party.

Permissions and why they are needed

Third parties

We do not share data with any third party. The only external service the extension contacts is YouTube (youtube.com), and only to retrieve the caption data for the video you chose.

Children's privacy

The extension does not collect any data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy
